Land Clearing in New Iberia, LA

Land Clearing · New Iberia, LA

Overgrown lots and acreage cleared back to open, usable ground.

Land clearing takes an overgrown lot or tract back to open, usable ground. We do that work in New Iberia and across Acadiana, on town lots and on acreage out in the parish. Brush, vines, briars and small trees come out. What is left is ground you can mow, build on, or put up for sale.

Growth barely stops in this part of Louisiana. Warm weather runs most of the year, and the rain keeps coming. A lot that got cleaned up two seasons back can be thick brush again. Chinese tallow and Chinese privet, both listed as invasive by the LSU AgCenter, take over old fields fast.

What We Handle

  • Overgrown lots cleared to open ground
  • Acreage and back tracts opened up
  • Underbrushing that leaves the mature trees
  • Brush, vines and briars pulled out
  • Small trees and saplings taken out
  • Fence lines cut back and reopened
  • Home site and building pad areas cleared
  • Vegetation hauled off in roll-off containers

What we clear and what stays

We look at the job before any equipment comes out. You tell us what has to go and what you want standing, and we mark it that way. A mini excavator handles brush, root balls and small trees. A compact track loader pushes material into piles and gets into tight spots near a fence or a house.

Underbrushing is the version where the big trees stay. We pull the brush, vines and small growth out from under the big trees and leave the canopy alone. Cut material goes into dump trailers or roll-off containers and leaves the property. Stumps are a separate job, and we dig those out with the excavator on stump removal work.

Why does an overgrown lot turn into a problem?

Most rural property in Acadiana drains through roadside ditches and coulees. Iberia Parish Public Works maintains 815 miles of canals and drainage ditches, plus more than 400 roadside ditches. When brush and saplings close in on a ditch line, water slows down and stands. With the growth off, you can see how the lot falls and whether it needs dirt work and lot grading.

Iberia Parish treats tall growth in its unincorporated areas as a nuisance. The limit is an average of 18 inches in a residential area, and 30 inches outside one. The parish can have a lot cut and bill the owner, and unpaid charges can become a lien. Other parishes and towns set their own limits, so check with your local office.

Common reasons people clear land around New Iberia

Most calls come down to a few things. Somebody bought a lot and needs a home site opened before a builder can start. A family tract sat for years and is going on the market. Old fencing and storm trash usually turn up under the brush, and that part is debris removal.

Hunting land is the other big one. Fence lines get opened back up and brush comes off around a camp. Lanes get cut so a truck can get in. We do the same work on land clearing in Lafayette and across the rest of Acadiana.

FAQ

Land Clearing Questions, Answered

Common questions about land clearing across New Iberia and all of Acadiana. If yours is not here, call and ask. The person who answers runs the jobs.

Call (337) 201-0594

What does land clearing cost?
Cost tracks the work in front of us. Size of the tract and how thick the growth is drive most of it. Tree size and how much has to be hauled off matter too. Wet ground and poor access both slow the job down, which adds to it. Estimates are free at (337) 201-0594.
Do you clear land outside New Iberia?
Yes. We cover roughly 35 to 50 miles around New Iberia. That takes in Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, Vermilion, St. Landry, Acadia and St. Mary parishes. Jobs run from town lots to acreage out in the country, including brush clearing in Breaux Bridge. Call and tell us where the property sits.
What happens to the brush and trees you take out?
It leaves the property. Cut material loads into dump trailers, and bigger jobs get a roll-off container brought in. Louisiana limits open burning to vegetative matter, and parishes and fire districts add rules on top of that. Hauling the material off avoids the issue, so that is how we usually handle it.
Do I need a permit to clear my land?
It depends on where the property sits and what comes next. Lafayette Parish asks for a land disturbance permit when clearing and grading happen ahead of a building permit. Wet ground can bring federal wetland rules into it. Check with your parish or city permit office before a large job. We work around what they tell you.
Can you clear the brush and leave the big trees?
Yes. That is underbrushing. We take out the brush, vines, briars and small trees underneath and leave the mature trees standing. It works well on wooded acreage where you want shade kept but the ground opened up. Mark anything you want saved before we start, or point it out when we come look.
